The Best Romantic Weekend Getaways from Perth
#1 | Rottnest Island
Driving Time from Perth: 90 minutes ferry ride from Perth City
Where to Stay:
There is no shortage of spots for a romantic weekend trip from Perth on this list, but a trip to Rottnest Island should be on everyone’s bucket list (not just couples!). Rottnest Island is an island off the coast of Western Australia located 18kms from Fremantle and is just a 30 min ferry ride away.
No matter what kind of couple you are, adventurous or laid back, Rottnest Island is suitable for everyone. The romantics can enjoy a hand-in-hand sunset stroll at Pinky beach and stay in a deluxe tent at Discovery Rottnest Island for an amazing stay. Nothing better than listening to the sound of the waves while stargazing from the balcony, right?
The Island is full of beautiful beaches to snorkel and swim together, and also offers a variety of activities for adventurous couples like skydiving, segway tours, and air taxis. You can choose to indulge in a spa at Karma Rottnest afterward.
With a few different cafes and resto-bars on the island, you will be spoilt for choices. Spend an evening sipping cocktails and enjoying the live music while watching the views over Pinky’s beach. Rottnest Island is undoubtedly one of the most romantic places to choose for a weekend break from Perth.

#2 | Dunsborough
Driving Time from Perth: Approximately 3 hours
Where to Stay:
Just under 3 hours drive south of Perth is the cute seaside town of Dunsborough. This quaint little town that sits right on the waters of Geographe Bay is the perfect romantic weekend escape from the city.
You’ll find sensational beaches, delicious food and locally made wine, boutique shops, and the locals are so friendly. Dunsborough is a great destination for those couples who really want to relax on the beach and wine and dine for a few days.
A trip along Cape Naturaliste is an absolute must. This is where you’ll find the best beaches in this region. Spend your weekend hopping between Meelup Beach (the pick of the bunch), Eagle Bay, Castle Rock, Bunker Bay, and more. The white sand and crystal-clear blue water make these some of the best beaches in Australia.
After a day spent baking in the sun, check out Wise Winery which is also situated along Cape Naturaliste. The winery is set on a hill with incredible views all the way down to the ocean. They have their own tasting room so you can sample all of their wines before moving on to the restaurant for an amazing meal. Expert tip – book early and request a table on the patio for the best views.

#3 | Denmark
Driving Time from Perth: Approximately 4.5 hours
Where to Stay:
If you are searching for a completely secluded place to plan your next romantic weekend getaway from Perth, Denmark is the spot for you. It is THE destination for couples seeking to spend some alone time in paradise, because on Denmark’s beaches, you’ll be lucky to see another living soul!
Located in the Great Southern Region along Western Australia’s Rainbow Coast, Denmark is one of the lesser-known places in Western Australia. It is home to some of the best beaches in the country!

#4 | Yallingup
Driving Time from Perth: Approximately 3 hours
Where to Stay:
Three hours south of Perth is the small coastal town of Yallingup nestled into the hillside which is the perfect place for a couple’s weekend getaway from Perth. There are several great towns in the southwest region, and Yallingup is a perfect option for those wanting to be closer to the beach or in a quieter location.
Seashells Yallingup is the perfect place to stay for couples that are after some relaxation. The self-contained apartments come with a full kitchen and lounge area, and spa bath. Enjoy the sunset with a glass of wine in hand from your balcony overlooking Caves House gardens. Just a short drive away is Sugarloaf Rock, a great sunset spot located in the Leeuwin-Naturalise Park just north of Yallingup.
There are plenty of things to do in Yallingup. Start off your morning with a coffee from the Yallingup General store near Caves House. During the day, go underground at Ngilgi Cave, or explore the beautiful beaches. The sheltered lagoon at Yallingup Beach makes for a great swimming or snorkelling spot. From here, you can take a scenic walk along the Quenda trail that follows the coastline along part of the Cape-to-Cape track before reaching Smiths Beach.
There are plenty of great wineries in the area that offer lunch along with wine-tasting. Barnyard 1978 is another great lunch spot in Yallingup. The food here is delicious, with fresh modern Australian options and handmade pasta. Don’t forget to pick up some take-home goods (pasta, sauce, olives, and the like) before you leave.

#5 | Albany
Driving Time from Perth: Approximately 4.5 hours or 1 hour flight
Where to Stay:
South West WA is one of the most beautiful regions of Australia and yet, one of the lesser known. The coastal town of Albany is an easy drive (or flight) and a great destination for a romantic weekend trip from Perth.
Albany is on the edge of a beautiful natural harbour – King George Sound – a great spot for history buffs. The town of Albany, initially known as Port Frederick, was actually established before Fremantle, making the earliest colonial settlement in Western Australia. A stroll in Albany’s quiet streets will have you admire the elegant houses and manicured front yards and taking in the sea breeze.
Albany is a must-see if you are interested in war history. The majority of ANZAC troops gathered together and departed Australian shores on boats moored in the King George Sound. The National ANZAC Centre is an excellent museum, chronicling Australia’s involvement in the conflict, incorporating individual stories of soldiers, officers and nurses of all sides.

#7 | Lancelin
Driving Time from Perth: Approximately 1.5 hours
Where to Stay:
Travelling to a secluded area on a road trip can be very romantic for a couple, and the north offers some of the best isolated short breaks from Perth.
The northern region also offers a number of beautiful national reserves, beaches, dramatic shorelines, and diverse rock formation that is perfect for adventurous couples to explore and take memorable photos to remember their weekend trip from Perth.
Lancelin is a small town to the north of Perth with a population of just 800 people. It’s located approximately 1.5 hours drive from the city and is a great pitstop to further explore any other point of interest including Lake Thetis and the Pinnacles Desert.
Check in to some intimate accommodation in town and enjoy a lovely meal at Lobbster Trap Café. Lancelin is close to a number of beaches for surfers, divers, and swimmers. There are many locations to birdwatch if that’s up your alley.
However, you simply cannot leave without trying your hand at sandboarding, as Lancelin is located right next to the largest sand dune in Western Australia. For something even more thrilling, hop on a dune buggy or motorbike – driving across the sand dunes in the late afternoon. To make your couple’s weekend getaway even more special, why not finish with a romantic sunset on the sand before heading back to Perth.

Fremantle is known to be the home of many artists and creatives, making it one of the best Perth getaways for couples who love art or history. Head to the WA Maritime Museums or the Shipwreck Museums to learn more about the incredible historic significance of this area. There are always plenty of things to see and do in Fremantle. You’ll love the historic Fremantle prison which offers different types of guided tours.
